The CLARA 2 is located in B88.
CLARA 2 is a high performance FEG-SEM system that features a high brightness Schottky emitter.
Features include:
- Giant chamber with 5-axis fully motorised stage
- High resolution performance 0.9 nm at 15keV and 1.4 nm at 1 keV
- Field of view: 7 mm at WD 10 mm and > 50 mm at max WD
- Probe current: up to 400 nA
- Chamber plasma cleaner
Imaging detectors include:
- SE detector (Everhart-Thornley)
- LE BSE (Motorized)
- In-column Energy-Filtered Multidetector (MD)
- In-column axial BSE/SE detector (Axial)
- EDS spectra, maps and line scan acquisition and analysis can be performed on an Oxford Instruments X-maxN 80 EDS system.
- A Kammrath & Weiss transfer module is available for transferring air sensitive samples between glove box and SEM.

Booking
SEM time can be booked through the booking system . Please note the system is read only, so please contact Dr Heather Greer (hfg24@cam.ac.uk) to arrange access and training.
Usage charge is £40/h for independent use, £55/h for assisted/training and £60/h for submitted usage. Bookings cancelled with less than 24h notice will be charged at 50% and less than 2h of notice will be charged the full rate.
